Matthew began his speaking career in the 7th grade when his teacher made him give a painfully detailed presentation to his class about how to properly sharpen a pencil (true story). Since then he has spoken at a variety of venues and events. In college he was awarded a multi-year scholarship to participate on the school’s speech and oral interpretation team. His most popular speech was one he gave on the proliferation of coffee houses and specialty coffee drinks which were just taking off in the United States in the early 1990s.
In his 20s and 30s, Matthew worked extensively as an actor and comedian, which served to strengthen his speaking and storytelling muscles. Today, he most often speaks and tells stories for all ages in churches. Recent topics have included how to deepen our compassion and the concept of kindness, respect, empathy, and compassion for all people, also known as The Core Four. Matthew has 30-minute keynote speeches ready to go on the topics of compassion, self-care for caregivers, and the acceptance of difference.
